Daily Care

The way you wear your jewelry matters as much as how you store it. These simple habits will significantly extend the life of your pieces.

Do
  • Put jewelry on last — after perfume, moisturiser, and hairspray
  • Remove before swimming, showering, or exercising
  • Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wearing
  • Store each piece separately to avoid scratching
  • Remove before sleeping, especially necklaces
Avoid
  • Direct exposure to perfume, hairspray, or harsh chemicals
  • Prolonged submersion in chlorinated or salt water
  • Abrasive cleaning cloths or harsh cleaning solutions
  • Storing all pieces loose together in a drawer
  • Wearing during high-impact activities
Everyday Questions

Technically yes — our PVD-plated pieces are water resistant and won't rust or corrode from occasional water exposure. However, prolonged daily exposure to water, soap, and shampoo will gradually affect the plating over time. We recommend removing pieces before showering to maximise their lifespan.

For studs and small earrings, sleeping in them is generally fine. For necklaces and bracelets, we recommend removing them before sleep — chains can tangle, stretch, or break under the pressure of sleeping. It also gives your pieces a rest and your skin a chance to breathe.

Our pieces are sweat resistant, so occasional gym wear is fine. However, sweat contains salts and acids that can affect plating over time with repeated exposure. For best results, remove jewelry before intense exercise and wipe down with a dry cloth immediately after if worn.

Cleaning Your Jewelry

How to Clean

Use a soft, lint-free cloth (microfibre works great) to gently wipe your pieces after each wear. For a deeper clean, use a tiny amount of warm water and a drop of mild dish soap on a soft cloth — gently wipe, then immediately dry thoroughly with a clean dry cloth. Never soak plated pieces.

Only use cleaning solutions specifically formulated for gold-plated jewelry. Avoid any solution containing ammonia, bleach, or abrasive particles. When in doubt, warm water and a soft cloth is always safe.

Use a silver polishing cloth for routine cleaning. For tarnished pieces, a small amount of silver cleaning solution or a paste of baking soda and water on a soft cloth works well. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. Silver naturally oxidises with exposure to air — regular gentle cleaning prevents heavy tarnish buildup.

Storage

Storing Your Jewelry

The satin or velvet pouch that comes with every box is perfect for storing individual pieces. Keep pieces separate to avoid scratching. Store away from direct sunlight, humidity, and extreme temperatures. A jewelry box with individual compartments is ideal for larger collections.

The pouch that comes with your box is designed for exactly this purpose and will serve your pieces well. The outer box also makes a beautiful display and storage piece on your dressing table.

Avoid storing jewelry near perfume bottles, cosmetics, or cleaning products. The chemicals in these products can affect plating over time even without direct contact. Also avoid humid environments like bathrooms for long-term storage.

Care By Material

Gold-Plated Pieces (GLOW, HAZE, DUSK)

With proper care, our PVD gold plating typically lasts 1–3 years of regular wear. PVD plating is significantly more durable than traditional electroplating. The lifespan depends on how often the piece is worn and how well it's cared for.

Our PVD-plated pieces are highly tarnish-resistant. With proper care (avoiding harsh chemicals, removing before swimming, wiping after wear) your pieces should maintain their colour beautifully. If slight fading occurs over time, this is normal and expected with all plated jewelry.

Sterling Silver Pieces (LUNE)

Silver naturally reacts with sulphur in the air, creating a dark oxidised layer on the surface. This is completely normal and doesn't indicate damage. Regular gentle cleaning and proper storage significantly slow the tarnishing process.

Store your silver pieces in their pouch when not wearing — limiting air exposure slows tarnishing significantly. Anti-tarnish strips in your jewelry box also help. Wearing your silver pieces regularly actually helps too, as the gentle friction of wear naturally polishes the surface.

Common Questions

Quick Answers

Yes, some natural dulling over time is normal for all plated jewelry. A gentle polish with a dry microfibre cloth is usually enough to restore the shine. If dulling is more significant, try our cleaning method above.

Email us at hello@maisonvue.com with your order number and a photo. If the piece is within its 12-month warranty period, we'll replace it immediately.

Resizing is not recommended for our gold-plated pieces as the process can damage the plating. We recommend using our Ring Size Guide before ordering individual pieces to ensure the best fit.
